Tallahassee State College’s student media publications, Eyrie and The Talon, secured thirteen awards at the Florida College System Publications Association Annual Conference.
The Eyrie, the College’s art and literary magazine, received eight awards for its 43rd edition. Notably, Joshua Newsome’s captivating piece, “The Desert is Alive,” claimed first place in the Nonfiction category. Additionally, Sage Moore's "Faded” and the remarkable photography of Richard Joseph and Dylan Hedge earned second-place recognition in the Photo Individual and Photography categories. The Eyrie's student design staff garnered third-place accolades for their outstanding work in Design, Two-page spread, and Staff Pages. Furthermore, Samantha Stilley's poignant piece, "The Crying Fields," secured third place in the Fiction category, while Grace Toole Duncan, Blair Bowers, and Sage Moore's exceptional poetry compositions earned third place honors.
"These awards mean so much to the hardworking and passionate student production team, as well as the students published in the magazine. I'm proud to see them all receive this much-deserved recognition,” said Nicolette Costantino, Eyrie Advisor and TSC English Professor.
The Talon, TSC’s student newspaper, made a significant impact, securing five awards. Ariel Li's compelling story on the effects of a new Florida law earned her first place in the In-Depth Reporting category. Li also claimed third place in the General Column category for her thought-provoking opinion piece on body positivity. Additionally, Jamalachi Willis' captivating photograph of a student at the college's art gallery secured first place in the Feature Photo category, while his snapshot of two students playing basketball in the college's Lifetime Sports Complex earned a third-place award in the Sports Photo category. The Talon staff's exceptional photo project, documenting a Week in the Life of the college, was recognized with a second-place award in the Picture Story category.
"I couldn't be more proud of our students and the hard work they put in every day. These awards are a testament to their dedication, passion, and commitment to telling stories that matter," said Reggie Grant, advisor of The Talon and Professor of Journalism.
