Tallahassee Community College is recognizing Sharisse Turner, Dean of Transitional Studies at TCC for being named the 2021 recipient of the Gladys R. Shaw Award for Outstanding Service and Support for Student Success by the National Organization for Student Success (NOSS).
Turner has dedicated more than 35 years to serving underrepresented, under-served student populations. As Dean of Transitional Studies, she oversees the summer bridge program for first generation and low-income students, peer mentoring programs as well as developmental education courses in reading, writing, math, and specialized courses for non-native speakers of English. Turner is the past-president and current treasurer of the Florida Association of Student Success (FASS) and member of the NOSS and the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
“I am so very pleased and honored by this recognition from a national organization that continues to be the leader in developmental education and student success,” said Turner. “I am proud to represent Tallahassee Community College, the state of Florida and FASS.”
The award criteria includes more than 10 years of service and an extensive record of service and support in student success-related programs.
Turner will be awarded with a plaque and stipend. Additionally, she will be honored at the NOSS upcoming virtual conference in June.
