National Entrepreneurship Week 2021 graphic Tallahassee Community College is recognizing National Entrepreneurship Week February 15 – 19 through a series of virtual events and guest speakers. National Entrepreneurship week is an education initiative dedicated to teaching the next generation about entrepreneurship.

“We believe it’s incredibly important for our students, faculty and staff to be plugged into what we are doing to help prepare people to be entrepreneurs,” said Jim Murdaugh, TCC President. “Things are changing in the world and more people look forward to the opportunity of working for themselves. Particularly, in this global environment we find ourselves in, the College feels well positioned to help our students prepare for a career in entrepreneurship.”

Overall, there appears to be a growing understanding of the benefits of entrepreneurship among people across the world. According to Global Entrepreneurship Model, entrepreneurship statistics from 2018-19, more than half of the people surveyed feel starting one’s own business is a good career move. Moreover, according to Fresh Books, it was estimated that in 2020 there were 27 million self-employed professionals in the U.S.

“There is a certain freedom and level of empowerment that goes along with being in control of your own destiny,” said Kimberly A. Moore, Vice President for Workforce Innovation & TCC2WORK/Be Essential. “When you take into consideration that 62% of US billionaires are self-made you realize why the interest in entrepreneurship continues to grow nationwide and globally.”

To join in the conversation and learn more about entrepreneurship, TCC is offering virtual events throughout the week, featuring national speaker Dr. Rebecca Corbin, author of “Community Colleges as Incubators of Innovation.” In addition to highlighting the Oyster Aquaculture and Drone programs and the College’s Verizon Innovative Learning Grant partnership.
