TCC offers Scholarships for In-Demand Programs

August 3, 2020

TCC logoTallahassee Community College’s Division of Workforce Development is urging prospective students pursuing in demand programs during the fall semester to apply to the CARES Act scholarship. TCC is directing funding efforts to help people unemployed and impacted by COVID-19 pandemic achieve skilled training that will afford them the opportunity to improve their livelihood and embark on a career.

The programs that can utilize the scholarship opportunities are Medical Administrative Specialist, Industrial Machinery Maintenance (IMM), Welding, Cybersecurity, Commercial Vehicle Driving (CVD) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC).

Florida’s current unemployment rate is 10.4% that is up 7.2 percentage points from last year. Training in these essential areas will assist Floridians in their efforts to get back to work as quickly as possible.

“Across the nation there are millions of people whose employment situation has been interrupted due to COVID and their jobs may not be returning,” said Kimberly A. Moore, Vice President for Workforce Innovation & TCC2WORK/Be Essential. “Therefore, the TCC CARES scholarships come at a pivotal time for those who could benefit and need it most. The scholarships will cover from 50-100% of the tuition cost for short-term in demand programs. This is critical for local residents who are seeking to take charge of their lives again and return to work in less vulnerable positions.”

These programs are in demand with Florida projecting that through 2028 there will be an average growth rate across these fields of 10 percent. Graduates of the programs will have the potential to earn wages ranging from $18.51 - $47.95 an hour depending on which industry. The trainings will include industry recognized certifications which means that the certification is portable and accepted throughout the U.S.

“The time to make a decision about your future is now,” said Moore. “There are resources available, so don’t miss out on an opportunity to change your life for the better.”

These programs will start in August and September. All interested parties should contact 1-833-TCC-JOBS or [email protected]. To apply, visit tcc.fl.edu/admissions/caresact/ and click on the “CARES Act Tuition Scholarship Application” banner.
