The oyster aquaculture program offers a sustainable way to farm oysters as wild harvesting has declined in Wakulla, Franklin, and Gulf Counties. Overharvesting, the BP oil spill, and fewer public harvesting areas have pushed many to seek jobs in other industries.
More than 300 farmers have graduated from our program, and more than 150 new businesses have been created.
